Subway To Success
-J. White-R. Younkins-

Spoiled rotten baby, little debutante
Pound on the floor if you don’t get what you want
Time sure did a number on you
I wouldn’t say it if it wasn’t true
Chasin’ my dreams, chasin’ my drinks
Chip on my shoulder ‘cause this show business stinks
Hollywood’s just a dead end town
Sit on my ass & watch the world go round

(I was) Knocked down, kicked in the face
Just a skinny boy & I feel outta place
Ridin’ on the subway to success

I got a postcard from my girl today
You know Virginia is so far away
She said I must cut all ties with you
You’re goin’ nowhere & you’ll get there soon
I made the cover of the Rollin’ Stone
Now I’m sippin’ my wine in the corner alone
I have to go back to the end of the line
And start all over ‘cause this cat’s got nine

(I was) Knocked down, put on the shelf
Dust off the hot seat for somebody else
There ain’t no one here to impress, Not to impress

Knocked down, kicked in the face
Just a skinny boy & I feel outta place
Ridin’ on the subway to success, I only got one token left

One token left

Fun Facts To Know And Tell (Part 2):

The song "Subway to Success" was first recorded in 1996/97 on the EP (tape) Jeremy & The Suicides - Subway To Success.
It was the first song that Jeremy and Ronnie collaborated on creatively.
The original version featured Jeremy on vocals and Ronnie, together with Sajjad Khan, on guitars. Craig Sibal played bass and Zack Parker drums.

The song "Subway To Success" was written and brought alive in the seedy streets of Fells Point, Baltimore, and recorded in the countryside of Maryland; coincidentally in the same studio, Zax Trax, where the second recording took place as well.

The photo on the left shows the Suicides on the fire escape in Fells Point in 1997; this photo was also the original album cover, by I. Wehrspohn.

The Suicides disbanded in the autumn of '97 and Ronnie and Jeremy were hence known as The Slimmer Twins.
Sajjad, in the meanwhile, started a family and was blessed with twin babys! - What are the chances!

Ronnie re-recorded the song "Subway To Success" for The Blues Vultures - Cheap Guitars & Honky Tonk Bars CD in 2005, because he wanted it to be made available to a wider audience.
