In an age in which theatrics and image are used to compensate for mediocre (or even downright poor) music, it's rare that one can see a stripped down, no frills classic
Rock ‘n’ Roll show. However, that was precisely what the Blues Vultures treated their fans to at the Relax Lounge.

[...] While Ronnie handled a majority of the lead vocals, the BVs showed versatility and true musicianship - each member sang a handful of tunes. Three sets of original and classic
Rock ‘n’ Roll music were performed. The originals were drawn from the Slimmer Twins CD Lack Of Luxury as well as the relatively new Blues Vultures disc Cheap Guitars & Honky Tonk Bars. Both of these albums are must-own, the latter containing soon to be classics such as "Subway To Success", "Wrap Yourself In Glamour" and "My Baby Up And Left Me." The covers were from the Stones ("Brown Sugar," "Sympathy For The Devil"), Aerosmith ("Sweet Emotion," "Walk This Way"), as well as the Georgia Satellites, Zeppelin, and the like. What separates the BVs from other bands that cover songs like these, was the tightness and raw talent that the band displayed. [...]

As if the show wasn't enjoyable enough, the band ended their third set with a couple of punk covers - with the house lights on. "Chatterbox" by the New York Dolls and "I Wanna Be Sedated" by the Ramones ended a truly enjoyable performance.

If you reside in the tri-state area, check out The Blues Vultures. It won't be soon enough until I see them again.

A little window in the early days of the Blues Vultures
From Music Monthly: Thunderdome, Baltimore, 12/27/2003

What a night of high expectations! KIX, our very own KIX, returning to the stage nearly intact after eight excruciatingly long years. Just like the old days at Hammerjacks! [...]

Doors opened at 8 pm and after an interminable wait (till nearly 10 pm!) the rock star Blues Vultures, Ronnie Younkins band, took the stage to a swell from the pressing crowd.
The trio on stage was Ronnie on guitar, Zak Mabie on bass and Aaron Isaacs on drums. Ronnie was looking decadently chic wearing a black shirt over an old Alice Cooper T-shirt with maize and blue flowered gypsy pants with fringed bottoms. He was rock star skinny with his beautiful hair just as long and gorgeous as we remember. Using his fav axe, a gold Les Paul, he and the boys ripped into Pipeline. Ronnie still has the rock star swagger, he just doesnt pirouette like he used to.
Doing two more songs as a trio, Ronnie then called onto stage another guitarist (Rich Moxley) and Jeremy L. White on vocals. Jeremy, the other half of the so-called Slimmer Twins (a nod to the Mick and Keith moniker of the Glimmer Twins), ripped into the next song with Jagger-esque fervor to Ronnies Keith Richards riffs. Jeremy even has the Mick Jagger hip movements down. And just in case you didnt get the connection, they did a killer cover of the Stones classic, "Live with Me." They covered several songs off their CD including the title track, "Lack of Luxury" and also brought on their other friend and former KIX drummer, Jimmy Chalfant for the last few songs and to close the set out.

The Blues Vultures lived up to their name and laid down some solid
Rock ‘n’ Roll Blues.
They also warmed up the growing crowd for the main attraction. Ronnie waved good-bye at the end of the hour long set, but we were awaiting his return to the boards.
